  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo [known as Super Puzzle Fighter II X in Japan] is an arcade puzzle game released by Capcom in 1996. In this era, Capcom not only published some of the greatest fighting games to date, but this gem (pun intended) which featured a comical look at some of our favorite characters.

On January 21st, Riz0ne hosted a tournament for this classic, but with a twist in the rules. The players can only choose Dan, who is regarded as the weakest character in the game, although he his also the strongest due to his increased attack power. 10 players signed up, competing for $100+ to determine who has the best puzzle footsies!

Riz0ne also announced the final game to be revealed for the upcoming WNF Retro tournament series.

2X the Impact

  • Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact released on September 30, 1997 and was the second iteration of the SF3 series. The game lived for about 2 years before Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike would enter the scene and be one of the fan favorites until this day. SFIII: 2I was one of the most requested games to run a tournament for so Riz0ne decided to give the people what they asked for.

On September 5th, 2021 Riz0ne ran the event with commentary by Heather, FlashG and NYCFurby. Lots of tech and OG stories were shared by the bunch, as well as surprise entrants across various game specialists including SabreAZ, Hokuto, Dr Steelhammer, LordBBH and more.

#Cvs1Revival

  • Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 released in August of 2000, featuring the first crossover between Street Fighter and King of Fighters characters. While it was fun and competitive, the game was short-lived as Capcom vs. SNK 2 would release the very next year and steal the spotlight.

21 years later, players requested a revival for this masterpiece and a tournament was run on August 15, 2021 to celebrate this beauty of a game. Riz0ne streamed this tournament, with tobemorecrazy rocking the mics and telling us the history of the game, mechanics, and match up strategies. A whopping 17 players entered this tournament, representing both coasts of the US and two representatives from Canada, respectively.

2X in the Past

  • Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers released in 1993, just 6 months before the final competitive version of the series, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo. Unfortunately, as a result, there is not a lot of footage out there for high level SSF2 from the 90s. Riz0ne decided to revive this classic gem with 2X in the Past! Don't be fooled though as the skill level in California was the strongest on the planet!

On 8/8/21, 8 players from USA, Canada, and Mexico respectively competed to see who could display the strongest fundamentals in a game that truly demands it. Riz0ne streamed the tournament, with commentary by Andreas aka Deep Focus (UK) and Ultracombo.

After the tournament, exhibition matches were played joining together generations of Street Fighters with SVGL legend Insomniac getting in a few games, and sharing some lore in the stream chat.

HSF2X

  • Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition had its arcade release in 2003, nearly a decade after Super Turbo. This game allows you to select every version of the SF2 cast starting from World Warrior to Super Turbo.

On 5/9/2021, Riz0ne streamed a rom hack [HSF2X++] which allows you to not only do mirror matches in World Warrior, but also select the boss characters as well. These characters were banned, however, and instead a fun ratio format was introduced.

Players could build a team of up to 7 points, but could not exceed 3 characters.

    There will be a runback...in 2051, I guess.
